Information about Rhodes RHODES The dearly beloved nymph of God “Helios (which means Sun in Greek) with its diamond shape and glamour is the largest in size island of the Dodecanese (1.412 sq. km). Surrounded by small islands and rocky un-inhabited islands that are shyly trying to steal from her beauty.37% of the island is covered with rich forests and natural water fountains, like the ones in the valley with the Butterflies and the Seven Fountains.It’s excellent road network, together with the sea and air transportation, will lead you to uncountable sightseeing and to the beautiful and unique beaches of Rhodes island.The sport lovers will find here a paradise on earth for activities such as swimming, fishing, water skiing, windsurfing and sailing.

Sightseeing

The Medieval city rises like “a country within a country” right in the center of cosmopolitan Rhodes offering an endless source of sightseeing. Majestic Towers and very high walls give you the impression of a large castle from the time of Knighthood, that come in contrast with the Minarets that remind you of the passing of the Turks from the island.The palace the Grand Magistros, decorated with statues from the 2nd and 1st B.C., mosaics from Kos and wooden carvings with an intervention from the Italians later on changes to a glamorous and artful building/construction that leads its visitor to another dreamlike area.

Excursions

Your exploration at the beloved island of the Sun starts from the “Cape of Sand” the most northern part of the island, with organized golden sandy beaches with the similar umbrellas spread through out its length decorating it discretely.
Characteristic of this area is the hydro biological plant of the island, where the Aquarium is accommodated with unique samples of Mediterranean organisms. At the northeastern side of the islands, the windmills, signs of the middle Ages, come in contradiction with the first cosmopolitan beach and the casino of the Grand Hotel Astir Palace. Rhodes luxurious hotels at the North East side of the island offer to their visitors unique comforts. On the other hand the infamous Small and Large hotel of Rhodes have nothing to be jealous about (even though if they were built at 1924 and 1930 accordingly). This place is also where the statue of Aphrodite emerged from the sea.
